For a family of six, a historic home from the early 1900s is given a modern facelift while respecting the neighbourhood context. Diverting away from usual layout standards in contemporary homes, the shared programs such as the living area, kitchen and dining room are situated in the back while the pantry, mudroom, and stairs are street facing. This separation is delineated by a monolithic walnut wood storage wall. Glass is generously used throughout to emphasize transparency and openness between floors as well as on the façade of the building, prioritizing a view of the ravine. A four-storey staircase stretches the height of the house and gives its users a sense of connectedness to a different room at every turn of a corner.
